About Swudoku

A shared daily sudoku you play by swapping tiles. No timer. Your score is how few swaps you needed.

The name is swap plus sudoku. Swudoku is the daily 9×9 Swap Sudoku.

Why we built it

Classic sudoku still works. Scanning a grid, spotting a pattern, making a move. Filling empty cells on a phone does not.

So we kept the 9×9 and the 1–9-once-each rules, and we made the move a swap. The board starts full and jumbled. You untangle it.

We also wanted the same board as everyone else that day. You can compare swap counts with the people you actually play with. That is the whole social idea. If you already play Wordle, Wordle but sudoku is that shape on a 9×9.

How you score

Score is the swap count. Lower is better. Speed does not enter it.

A Double Swap puts both tiles in the correct cell in one move. After you finish, signed-in players may see a How you compare histogram of swap counts for that puzzle.

Colours tell you the state of each tile: grey is the wrong cell; yellow is the right cell with the row, column, and block still unfinished; green is home plus any one of those three complete; dark green is all three. The selected tile is blue. The board is done when every tile is dark green.

Most people finish in about 3–5 minutes.
